My role: Senior Development Artist / Lead Surfacing Artist
Development and improvement of surfacing and inter-departmental practices, as well as creation and maintenance of thorough documentation for surfacing procedures, guidelines, and troubleshooting common issues; painting characters, props, environments; training artists; generating collaborative creative solutions in meetings with other department supervisors.
In-depth details available in my cover letter on LinkedIn.
Programs used: Maya (UVs); Mari (environment painting); Mudbox (character painting); JCube toonshaders (characters); Maneki 3Delight, Vray (rendering);
For the first dragon character of the show, I collaborated with the Lighting Sup and a senior modeler to develop an approach for toon outlines on such a huge character and a method for modelling the hair to suit the toonshaded style. Painted textures in Mudbox.
Painted the bust and cabinet. For the egg, I developed a complex layered texture shader tree that interacts with a light source, and painted the separate layers in Mudbox.
Painted the ground, cliffs and rocks in this environment; developed a fix for gaps in the environment modelling.
